Description:
Discover ideas for teaching the three types of writing in the Common Core State Standards with Tim Hargis. Tim will share his most recent work on how to meet the writing demands of the Common Core.

This workshop will center on four areas of focus for writing instruction:
1) Purpose
2) Craft
3) Genre and Structure
4) Connecting to content to give teachers a concrete plan for how to tackle the Common Core writing standards.

OPTIONAL: The Writing Diner 2: Creating Active Thinkers for All Types of Writing ($85 list price) is available with registration at the special workshop price of $63. If ordering a book, please register by July 22nd.

PRESENTER: Tim Hargis is the author of the books, The Writing Diner 2: Creating Active Thinkers for All Types of Writing and The Writing Diner: Creating Active Thinkers in the Writing Classroom, as well as the children's novel, Ol' Man Caudill's Hat. He is also an Academic Support Coach for the Kentwood Public Schools and a National Writing Project Teacher Consultant. Previously, he worked as a classroom teacher for the Grand Rapids Public Schools and as an adjunct professor of English at Grand Valley State University. Prior to teaching, Tim was a news producer at WLWT-TV, the NBC affiliate in Cincinnati, Ohio. He holds degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. Tim is a lifelong writer and lover of words. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
